  • Worn second gear in 66 FL

I have my transmission out to install the hand shift lid and thought I'd do a little inspecting.
My end play measurement on the main drive gear 0.012' the countershaft end play is 0.012'' and third gear has zero end play
All these measurements look to be within tolerance according to my 59-69 service manual.
I believe I have a problem with 2nd gear though. The manual states 2nd gear end play is to be between 0.002 and 0.003'' this tolerance doesn't give much room for wear. Could this be an error? My 2nd gear end play is 0.016''
The low - 2nd cluster on the main shaft is Andrews 2.60 if this makes a difference in end play on the gear?? It looks pooched to me but I'm not sure,
Also My Low and 2nd gear shift clutch has about twice the lash between the cogs on the gears as when 3rd or 4th are meshed. Is this extra play to cushion the shock of going from neutral to first gear then passing through neutral to get to into second gear? or is it worn out too?
I haven't tackled a transmission yet. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
