What grade oil is best to run in my 41 scout? should I run synthetic or modern oil or stick to straight 50 weight?

You just want to start an argument. No one who's been on an antique motorcycle forum for more than about one week wants to start "An OIL Thread!"
Oils in 1930 were nowhere near as developed as they are today, meaning that anything is better than the original specified goo. You can even use an Indian-branded can sold in one of the new Indian boutiques, if you're picky. But Harley straight 50 and 60 for well worn-in engines, or Pennzoil Aircraft 50 are blended for air-cooled engines and won't do your Scout any harm. The new-fangled synthetics have cheering sections all their own, but I like real oil. So, there
    ya go.
