  • 49 engine case RAS stamp

    hi experts,

I just noticed RAS mark on the case. I haven't seen it before....
is this aftermarket case ? the VIN# looks very good to me.
please let me know what the mark means.

Shin Your cases are OEM and the serial number is perfect. I cannot explain the RAS but I suspect someone put the initials of their name on them. I have seen it before.

Shin; Jerry's suspicion is probably right on the money. A friend of mine built a nosecone stroker in the late '70's that ended up being stolen. He had stamped his initials on everything on the motor and transmission. He later found his big bore cylinders and other parts on a shelf for sale at a chopper shop in St. Louis County. He called the local police. They told him that they couldn't do anything about it. They said that a lot of people have those initials. They told him that he should have used his social security number.

Shin, does that bike come with a California Certificate of Title? If so please check it for errors. I’ve seen part of the title and near the top it says 49FL but further down it says 49F6. Maybe just a clerical mistake with 6 being typed in where it should have said L.
