  • Question 47 Chief Locking up when clutch fully engaged

I have a 47 Chief and it starts and runs fine. When you begin to engage clutch it start off fine. When clutch is fully engaged it locks up the motor and freezes the rear tire. Any idea's???? THANKS TCHIEF

You could block up the rear and see if it does it with no load,or in just first and other gears no jam up,but most likely you will need to pull trans tower and or primary cover to see whats happening. Is this a recent change?

Have you tried to engage the clutch when the transmission is in neutral. I bet you transmission is seizing.

Like Tom said, take the tower off and look inside. I had a clutch hub nut come off on a Chief, which allowed the clutch basket to go right into the primary case. That can really do some damage so take a look.
