  • From AMCA Executive Director Keith Kizer regarding email scams PLEASE READ

    All,

Well, the scammers are at it again. This time it is coming from someone posing as our President, Ross Metcalfe, with the Subject "AMCA REQUEST". They ask for the recipient to send out $700 worth of gift cards and to follow instructions, blah blah blah.

I cannot say this enough, NEVER FALL FOR EMAIL SCAMS. No one from the AMCA, or the AMF, or your chapter or anyone you know, is ever going to ask you to purchase gift cards or send money via email because they are unable to do so.

NEVER SEND ANYONE MONEY BECAUSE THEY REQUESTED IT THROUGH AN EMAIL.

I know you all know this, but it is worth repeating because these emails just keep getting more and more realistic and start first with a simple email asking if you would be willing to help. Once you reply to their first email, this is when they make their pitch.

If in doubt, delete. If the first email gets past you, and it's easy to do, do not reply to the next one, just delete it. Even when you have caught on to their scam, don't engage them, just delete it and they will leave you alone. Don't engage them and make yourself a target for other scams.

    Regards,

    Keith
