  • 1916 Henderson Cannonball bike in Mecum Vegas auction Jan 24

My 1916 Henderson single-speed, which I rode to 6th place out of 107 starters in the 2018 Cannonball, will be auctioned by Mecum in Las Vegas on Thursday Jan 24, 2019.

This is a turn-key Cannonball bike with modern wheels, tires, brakes, 12V alternator electric system (no battery), comfortable seat, and a steering damper. I cruised across the USA at 48 MPH, although top speed is 64 MPH. I am including a short "owners manual" with hints to help the new owner do 3700 "perfect" miles.

I had a lot of fun with this bike. I soon learned why these single-speed motorcycles had twist-grip ignition timing. With money in hand, I am on to a 1917 Hen with the same engine and 3-speed transmission.

Are you going to 'Cannonball' that 1917 Hen?

Since there was no answer, I fear the worst. That's like giving a boob job to a 102 year old lady.

Yes indeed, the 1917 will also start it's new life as a Cannonball bike. In the meantime, I plan to ride my little 4-cyl Nimbus bits-a-bike in this years Cross Country Chase to Key West. It has a 1938 engine block.
