What color primer, if any, was used by the factory in the 20's & 30's?

    Thanks

I have NOS gas tanks and fenders from the '30's, '40's '50's, and '60's that are red oxide primer. Note that the gas tanks are Parkerized beneath the primer.

My understanding: No primer was used if finish coat applied by factory... If no finish coat applied, they were primer'd -red oxide! IMHO

        Thanks Guys,
Have a 26 BA that has home grown racing tanks on it. Had to remove the non factory paint that was applied when tanks were modified to deal with some rust.
It was a reddish paint that was peeling in spots. Want to attempt some fauxtina after cleaning. Thanks for the help.
