"American ingenuity" seems to be fading as the electronics age takes over.

Somebody must have some pics of early American motorcycles /motors being used in similar get the job done easier ways.
Farmers are probably some of the most ingenious people when it comes to using whats available out of necessity.

I do not have pictures but in the middle 70's I bought 7 old motorcycle engines from an auction at a Mennonite farmstead. All were earlier than 1920 and most were belt drive. Jerry

In the early '70s I worked in a machine shop that used an H-D 4 speed box attached to a drill press allowing 4 distinct ranges of speed besides the V-Belt stack. The box was vertical with the shifter end up and a simple lever to shift it. Kicker end plugged and box filled with light oil.

Bought a late teens early 20's JD Transmission for my Board Track Project a few years ago, i think from a guy in PA.
It was put to use in a saw mill. Missed out on a Detroit Henderson 4 cylinder that was being used as an irrigation pump motor, here in Michigan. Billy Lane beat me out of that one. Lane built a Board Track around it for his series...'Sons of Speed'.

I have an empty 45 trans case and a V-belt pulley welded to a clutch spline that I gutted for the internals. Came off a farm in southern NM. No telling what it was used on.
