Dear Eric, thanks for the nice words. I received a question about paper size and here is my reply "The 4 volumes contain all the pages from 113 Enthusiasts, including the front and back covers, usually 24 pages per issue. As to size, the originals are 6" x 9". We've managed to get two pages on an A4 landscape sheet of paper, which is 11 3/4" x 8 1/8", by slightly reducing the size. The printer has adjusted the contrast to favour the photos, so they are clear while the text is less black. There are an amazing number of pictures in the magazines, and surely a chance that a relative, or your bike, are in there somewhere."

Volume 2 is just out, with another 312 pages of information on the 1931/32 Harleys. Here's the cover picture showing a '32 in the optional delft blue and turquoise paint scheme with the swirl tank. The half price postage offer is still running.IMG_1850 (2).jpg

Here is the first copy of Volume 3 for the 1934/5 models, this time with 385 pages because of the extended 1934 model year making for 29 Enthusiast magazines this time. And yes, the half price postage offer is still running. Cover picture is a '34 in the Teak Red and Silver paint scheme.IMG_1866 (2).jpg

And finally here is the first copy of Volume 4. That's a 36VLH on the cover in the striking Nile Green and Maroon paint scheme. This time 464 pages because of 36 Enthusiast magazines. Even though the VLs weren't made after 1936, there are still plenty of articles and pictures about them in the next couple of years. For you knucklehead guys, there are pictures and stories about the early overhead valve machines, with plenty of racing, speed records and distance runs.IMG_1867 (2).jpg
More details on the VL Heaven Website. Volumes 3 and 4 have more pages, so cost more to print and mail. By the way, Volumes 3 and 4 also include the seasonal accessory supplements if you like 1930s clothing prices. Because Harley shortened the model years after the extended '1934', this volume includes the new model Enthusiasts for 1936, 1937, 1938 and 1939.

These should be shipping at the end of the week. Once again, if you are taking a set please contact me as the parcel company needs your telephone number.

I got my set. Wow quite the treasure trove! It’s hard to find good info about the 1930s but these are great! Seeing all these issues together is really amazing. So many stories and pics, great to get all the context.

Thanks for the nice words guys and I'm thrilled Badger found his family in those numerous Enthusiast articles. I was hoping to find all pre-WW2 Enthusiasts for the last volume, but they have become hard to find and expensive. For those who think the books are not cheap, 113 original Enthusiasts at say $35 is $4000 and 12 color sales brochures at $160 is $2000, and the printer wanted his money up front for all the digitising. This is a low volume specialist publication, but I'm glad to find other AMCA members sharing my obsession, and pleased that the information on a pivotal time period for Harley is now out there. Seasonal greetings to all!

Dear All, I've just received this Email from Frank in California, and have his permission to post it in its entirety here:

                          Steve,

I have to be honest with you and tell you that I felt like a kid again on Christmas morning. I found your package in my mail box today and could hardly wait to open it up. WOW!!! I can't believe all of the information that you packed into THE HARLEY-DAVIDSON VL YEARS Volume 3. 1934/35 models. August 1933-December1935. I flipped through the pages so quickly just wanting to see what was on the next page and the next page and the next. Nearly four hundred pages of information and history about the VL that I know I would have never seen or known about without getting this book. I can't thank you enough for all of the GREAT information and knowledge that you continue to provide and share.

                          Frank

Thank you Frank, such feedback is hard to find...

Dear All, for a low volume specialist publication these are flying off the shelves. I'm down to 11 copies of Volume 1, so buy now while stocks last. If you don't want to pay eBay prices check out the VL Heaven website. Seasonal best regards to all.
