1914 clutch

  • 1914 clutch

    have a 1914 harley single chain drive...got it running good but the clutch slips, the guy i got if from put it all togeather, so not sure it is ajusted anywhere near what it needs to be. I took wheel off but would like to know correct way to set clutch up.....Steve

    Steve,

    If the plates are clean and in good condition, the only adjustment for slippage is the spring preload screws. I would check that they are all set to the same length, with a micrometer. Then you can turn them in half a turn at a time until it quits slipping.

      thanks for the help...its pretty much like a modern bike then (flatty, pan or knuckle).....the clamp that is attachec to the clutch linkage and runs that eccentric that engages the clutch pack, any special place it needs to be or just be sure it engages all the way? Thanks again...steve
