    My aunt sent me a picture of her dad (picture was marked 1926 when he would have been 18). The picture would have been taken in Hadley, Massachusetts. Hopefully the picture shows enough details, but I'm thinking it is an early '20's Chief?

    It's a Scout. I'm not up on Scouts so the year is difficult to pinpoint. I had a 1924 Chief and it also had the external compression relief rod, (which you can see just behind the rear gas cap). I believe Indian changed that in '25 by running the rod through the tank. The most distinctive difference between a Scout, and Chief of that vintage is the front fender. . . And the size of engines; helluva' difference there

      I played with the contrast and brightness a bit.

      Makes some of the details easier to see.

      Great old photo!! Your uncle/great uncle was a lucky guy to have such an amazing machine as a young 'un!
