  • 150 MPH Speeometer

Does anyone remember what year the Sportster speedometer (XLCH) changed from 120 MPH to 150 MPH? My '64 uses 67007-59, but I don't remember which speedo face came with the bike, as I gave the speedometer away soon after I bought it the bike. It was 1968....... Need I say more?
    Thanks.

67007-59 is a 120 mph speedo. The 150 mph head is 67007-59C. I don't have any Sportster parts books from the 60s or 70s but based on the stylised bar and shield logo on the face I would guess it wasn't used prior to 67 or 68 (the big twin speedo got that style logo in 68) ... Perry

Thanks Perry - I have a couple of the 120 MPH speedometers, so that's good news.

you need the 120mph speedo that has the bigger numbers on it. (the early style.) 1964 was the last year to use that speedo.

                Chris,
That listing is a Smiths Chronometric for a Brit bike. The Smith's used by H-D were all magnetic. The only chronometric item was the tach used on some KRs.

I am no expert on them. But I can see that one was mounted to a Sportster.

                    150 Mph

My 1967 XLCH came with 120 mph . For 1968 H-D added 150 MPH. (The Savage Sportster has made necessary a new speedometer which registers to 150 mph) In H-D add in Enthusiast. Also says Sportsters for 1968 the boys get off ...THE MEN GET ON

                      Dave,

I noticed from the above picture that your speedometer appears to have been rebuilt. I had the speedometers for my '47 FL and '53 FLE rebuilt, but I havent found anyone who does Sportster speedometers and tachometers. Who did yours ? Do they do tachometers as well?

Bill, My restored speedo is the work of John Bordas, a fantastic job. I am not sure if he works on Chronometric movements. I'm glad you are happy with the tach cable.

Easier To Make A Speedo That Goes To 150 Rather Than The Bike, Maybe They Just Should Have Added A Logo "i Wish I Was A Vincent"

                            Dave,

I'm VERY happy with the Tach cable - Thank You!

I had the speedometers for my '47 FL and '53 FLE and for a freind's '58 FL rebuilt by the Russian guy - Joe N. Somewhat of a 'difficult' personality, but the work looks pretty good. However, two of my friends had work done by Bordas and I was extremely impressed! And I am told that he is reputable, very knowledgable and easy to deal with. I will contact him for the Sportster speedometer and tachometer.
