It is an aftermarket accessory lamp. Not part of any motorcycle. It is not at all uncommon to find automotive parts on old motorcycles.

i like using automotive parts on my bikes as long as they fit and aren't gaudy. i'm using this on my sidecar fender for the 47FL because i think it looks a lot better that the one harley used. i wish they had used this one instead. it was made by guide too but as far as i have been able to find it was used only on a 35 or 36 pontiac and a few different british cars. i still can't find any information on the catseye shaped headlight i put on another post. i have contacted as many light collectors as i can find and no one has ever seen one before of has any information on the brown universal company

Great motorcycle! If the EL motor is original to the machine I can't imagine why you would change it out.

It is not really an accessory. It is standard on Knuckleheads and UL's with a buddy seat.

As far as accessories go, what is allowed on a restored machine and what is not? Are only genuine accessories from the manufacturer or any aftermarket accessory that the dealer may have added? It was then as it is now common for dealers to load new bikes with accessories. Some of these aftermarket accessories later became factory options.

that's interesting---i have an oddball luggage rack and have only seen one other. i want to put it on my 47 but wonder if it would cost me points if i ever had it judged. i really like the rack. not as much as the rack on the vl you posted-------
