  • More Motorcycle Crime - Always Be Aware - Antiques are vulnerable

I wanted to make you aware of a big take down of organized crime related to stealing motorcycles. The news brief from the Maryland Attorney General announced sentencing and more info about the investigation and prosecutions. One quote said "The investigation revealed that the individuals formed a criminal organization and were linked to at least 19 high-value, stolen motorcycles – primarily Harley Davidson models – from dealerships and large-scale motorcycle events. " Lets be careful at our Meets where sometimes things get a little lax security wise. Here is a link https://oag.maryland.gov/News/pages/...eft-Ring-.aspx

    Thanks

So...if a person unknowingly purchased a part or complete stolen motorcycle, can the purchaser of stolen goods also be in trouble?

Anything is possible but I think not - but you could lose your investment!

AFAIK, that's always been the law. It's called receiving stolen property and it is a crime. It has to be that way in order to discourage shady pawn shops etc and other various 'fences' for that stolen merchandise. The distiction is drawn between 'receiving' and 'knowingly receiving' that property.

In cases I know of personally, the circumstanses were considered and no charges brought against the person who bought the stolen item(s). But, as Jerry said above... they lost the stuff and their money!

Most States would not prosecute, unless they can prove You knew the parts or goods were stolen. Most of the time the law has enough problems proving and prosecuting the individual or individuals that committed the crime, so they don't bother with the small fry. Besides, the majority of people will say they knew nothing about the parts or merchandise being '
Hot'. But, that person will lose everything they payed for on the stolen merchandise!!!

I've heard more than one story over the years of a stolen bike or car being recovered and returned to the last owner years or decades later. True stories or not, it can happen.
