My name is Marlaina Abbott-Johnson, and I believe I may be able to help with your project.

My parents, Billy and Pat Abbott, purchased Nettles Harley-Davidson in 1972 and renamed it Coastal Harley-Davidson. Our family owned & operated the dealership in Murrells Inlet/Myrtle Beach until 1998. I worked in the business throughout my life and my brother and I managed our Ocean Boulevard location in Myrtle Beach from 1994-1998.

Of course, I also attended dealer meetings and events with my family, so many of the dealers throughout South Carolina and North Carolina were people I knew personally. Many were family friends. I am familiar with a great deal of the dealership history in this region from the early days through 1998.

When Coastal was sold, we retained an enormous amount of obsolete parts, literature, advertising, photographs, and other dealership materials. I am now going through it through our vintage parts business, Resurrection Iron & Parts, and am beginning my own series honoring former dealerships and dealers the dealers I knew personally. .

Also, both of my parents are still living and remember a remarkable amount of this history. They are now enjoying a very well-earned retirement but I am happy to serve as the point of contact and, if there is something I do not know, ask them specific questions as needed.

I would be glad to share what we know and see what documentation we may have that could help. This is a wonderful project, and I appreciate your efforts to preserve this history.
