  • JD engine rebuild. Which pistons?

Many years ago an oldtimer told me he used low compression Panhead pistons in his Harley JDH. Does anybody have first hand experience using domed pistons in a J model? Rebuild time is here for my engine.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Once I had used 61 " low compression knucklehead pistons in a 1914 61" and they worked great. I had to make bushings to adapt the pistons to the early Piston pins. I think using panhead pistons on later 74" JD is a great idea. It should raise the compression to a more modern level giving more power. The pin diameters are the same for panhead and JD, so they should pop right in. For performance purposes, an even better idea is to run the ricardo racing inserts with flat top pistons. Good luck
