  • vincent 1951 song

anybody remember that song called "vincent 1951" about the guy who leaves his mororcycle to his son, i can just remember shades of it and something about "I leave to you my Vincent 1951". I been looking all over the internet for it, but can't locate it. anyone know who wrote it or sang/played it? There is a site called kazaa.com that has a bunch of free downloadable music and a lot of it is motorcycle related if you just type in motorcycle. I got "black denim trousers and motorcycle boots" off of it the other day. try it. let me know about Vincent 1951 at my email or here. I'm at bogwonrules@yahoo.com. thanx, The Bogwon

    song lyrics

I think this may be what you are looking for? Only, I don't think he's giving it to his son, but, like you said, you only remember "shades" of it. I will keep looking for a Father giving his son one though. Probably a TON of Vincent songs out there, right?

    1952 Vincent Black Lightning Lyrics
    by Richard Thompson
From his album, "Rumor and Sigh"

Says Red Molly, to James, "Well that's a fine motorbike.
A girl could feel special on any such like."
Says James, to Red Molly, "My hat's off to you.
    It's a Vincent Black Lightning, 1952.
And I've seen you on the corners and cafes, it seems.
Red hair and black leather, my favorite color scheme."
And he pulled her on behind,
    And down to Boxhill,
    They'd Ride.

Says James, to Red Molly, "Here's a ring for your right hand.
    But I'll tell you in earnest I'm a dangerous man;
For I've fought with the law since I was seventeen.
I've robbed many a man to get my Vincent machine.
    And now I'm twenty-one years, I might make twenty-two.
And I don't mind dyin' but for the love of you.
But if fate should break my stride, then I'll give you my Vincent, To Ride."

"Come down Red Molly," called Sargent McQuade.
"For they've taken young James Aidee for Armed Robbery.
Shotgun blast hit his chest, left nothing inside.
Oh, come down, Red Molly, to his dying bedside."
When she came to the hospital, there wasn't much left.
He was runnin' out of road. He was runnin' out of breath.
But he smiled, to see her cry.
And said, "I'll give you my Vincent.
    To Ride."

Said James, "In my opinion, there's nothing in this world
Beats a '52 Vincent and a Redheaded girl.
Now Nortons and Indians and Greavses won't do.
Oh, they don't have a Soul like a Vincent '52."
Well he reached for her hand and he slipped her the keys.
He said, "I've got no further use...for these.
I see Angels on Ariels in leather and chrome,
Swoopin' down from Heaven to carry me home."
And he gave her one last kiss and died.
And he gave her his Vincent.
    To Ride.

i think this is the song I was referring to, Jim, Thanx alot and I'll try to listen to it on one of your links. I play the guitar and I want it in my repertoire. Maybe you saw me in that documentary on PBS with Al Roker, entitled "on the road to Sturgis". I was the one playing one of my original songs around the campfire, "Takes a long while to drive across Texas". It aired on february 17, 1997 and was the one where they followed a couple of my riding partners from Seattle to the Rally, Indian Jeff McGeary and Tom Samuelsen, and had Peter Fonda doing some of the narrating, too. Ok, later, Birthday dinner tonight, gotta go, Thanx again, The Bogwon

Glad to help. Yes, I do remember that special on TV. Only, (sorry) it has been so long ago that I saw it, I don't exactly remember you playing the guitar. I remember saying I wish I had taped it. Who knows, maybe they will rebroadcast it again. I hope so. Let me know it that was the "exact" song.
