  • Correct Front Brake Control Coil for 1971 FLH

What is the correct front brake control coil for a 1971 FLH? The 1961-71 HD parts book lists two control coils, #45064-66 (long) early 1969 to 1971 FL & FLH and #45065-60 (short) 1960-68 FL & FLH. JW Boon has both NOS coils on his site, but part #45064-66 is shorter (19 1/2 inches) than #45065-60 (28 inches) just opposite of the HD parts book. The existing control coil on the 1971 FLH, which I believe is original, measures approximately 23 inches. I also have a 68 FLH and the coil measured 28 inches, but not sure it is the original control cable. According to the parts book it should have the rubber sleeve on it, part #45091-66 (1966-early 69-FL & FLH). Thanks

Well I would think the 69-71 cable would be shorter because the drum is on the same side as the brake lever...on a foot shift model and the cable tube is a straight go. On 52-68 foot shift models the drum is on the left and the lever is on the right bar and the cable tube bends and crosses over the fender increasing the distance.
