  • 1919 Harley sidecar

I have a 1919 Harley JS that has a convertible top. I was told years ago by a person that was in the process of forming the HD Museum that the convertible tops were not an option available to the public when new. He stated that the convertible tops were a rare option that was reserved for Harley executives only. Does anyone have any information about this? Thanks

Gerry the attachments are from a HD accessory catalogue issued October 1st 1919 and shows a hood and screen one for $35.00 and a hood only option for $25.00.
For the hood only option it states that it fits 1915 to 1917 models so I assume the hood and screen one is intended for 1918 on sidecars.
The picture caption for the Hood and screen one does say "The new Harley-Davidson sidecar top and windscreen" and as this catalogue is dated late in 1919 it may be intended for 1920 models and not 1919 ones but I'm sure that at this point anyone could purchase one and retro fit it to a sidecar of any make and manufacture.
It's a good story but I'm not sure it's true though.
