  • 27 JD rim color

A week or so ago, i posted my thoughts on possible wheel rim color(s) for my 27 JD. solid vs tu-tone, blah blah blah.

No doubt i will go with a one color rim.

That being said, i will not be running clinchers, but the Kelsey Hayes drop center type reproduction rim.

A few weeks ago, there was a 26 JD on ebay, here is a picture of it. The seller said the front wheel was as came from factory; rear wheel replaced at a later date.

From pictures I've seen, I've been under the belief rims were black, clincher or drop center....

Some (of many) things i don't know, is how similar the finishes were between 26 and 27 models.....

For the 27.... What do you guys say ? Black or Olive rims ? Or, either ? (Considering i am going with non-original drop center rims, i am gong to suspect if a person bought a new drop center rim in 1929, it would have only come in black.... ? Drop center rims would not have come in Olive.... ?) i have an original 27 sales brochure, the artist's depiction of bikes shows clincher rims Olive. Looking at b/w factory pictures, appears the rims may have been black... ?

The more i talk this through, assuming drop centers came only in black, it would make sense to paint my rims black....

Also, on this 26, in other views of bike, the front hub is most definitely Olive. Difficult to tell color on the rear....

1927, what would be factory front and rear hub colors ?

And, 1927, what finish were spokes ?

As i understand it, fork rockers and front hub dust covers... Parkerized; and as appears on this 26.

    Thanks for your input.
