What is a good size road sprocket for my 36 4? Thanks Stan

Stan: I like the 18 tooth sprocket. If you live in flat country you could probably get away with a 19. Tom

      Howdy Stan,

As Tom recommends, a 19 is delightful, and nicely suited to the lighter and more nimble pre-40 machines when running 18's on a 4.50, makes them nicely long legged. Unfortunately for the 40 and later heavier machines this arrangement should be limited to the smaller diameter 5.00x16's, if the rider is heavy, two up,or worse, a chair might be fitted. The constantly elevated cylinder pressures from higher load at lower rpm makes them prone to detonation in warmer climates.

I was reminded of this when taking my 440 fitted with a 19 on 4.50x18's from our home along the Miss. River to over near our other location in the Ozarks. Riding 2 up became nearly impossible at road speed.
      Cheerio,
      Peter
