  • Speedometer calibration for '56 KH

A couple of years ago, I lead my club on a road trip riding my '56 KHK. It ran great, but the speedometer was 'way off. I knew it was going faster than the indicated 42-44 mph, and - when we came to a stop - the other riders told me we were doing ~80mph!

My question is: What sort of ratio does this speedometer have? I wonder if, somehow, I have the wrong drive gears for the speedometer in the bike.

There is only one drive gear for 52-72 models. However, there are two different drive gears inside the trans. One gear is listed for 52,53 and 57 and up. The 35363-54 gear is for 54-56.
Perhaps this is the cause of your problem.

I had the same problem with the speedometer of my knucklehead.
The magnets were weak, they should be charged.

John Bordas in Colorado changed the magnets when he calibrated the speedometer. When I get the bike on the road in a few months, I'll know if that did the job.

BTW, the speedometer came back in the time that John projected. I appreciate that.
