  • Chief Girder Front End

I could use some suggestions. I've got a Chief girder front end that I have painted and chromed all the parts and am ready to put back together. Now I've doen this several times over the years but have always struggled to get the springs & shock in without a fight. Anyone know of a painless way to get this thing together without chipping up my new paint job?

Bill, this is what worked for me, relatively painless I thought. Used a cloth ratchet strap to compress the springs after putting the springs and shock in place with the top girder unconnected, then I tightened the strap and pulled it all into line so I could connect the top girder.

Yeah, that looks like the ticket. Compressing the spring to get the top link on is the fight. Everything looks so nice cleaned up with new paint on it. I would hate to scratch it up.
