  • 58-up filler plug

Were there any differences in the slotted FL/FX trans filler plugs from 1958 and up? I have a nice one from a 80 FXE and another good one that is stainless. I need them for my 65 and also for my 58.

I think the 501a plugs are all the same, aluminum, not stainless.

I never paid much attention to the slotted plugs before, just that most seem to have been removed and tightened with a chisle or pliers. Don't know where I got this stainless plug but I never saw one on a bike.
Another thing I forgot to ask last night, when did the transmission mount plate start with the front holes threaded,1965?

      Thanks, Kerry

IIRC, that is a feature of all swingarm plates.

The 58 -68 book doesn't show nuts but shows the same bolt pt.# for 37 thru 68. I have bolts from a 49 and a 51 and the shoulder is too long to work in a threaded plate and the overall length is unnecessary. Probably changed the bolt in 58 but not the pt.#.
Guess I'll use the threaded plate and a couple G 8 bolts and call it good.
