  • Clearing fuel tap threads in tank

    G'day everyone.
I finally got my 47 Indian Chief 4 1/2 GAL tanks from Iron Horse Coral painted and need to clean the tank prep and paint from the Fuel tap threads in the tank.
What is the best way to do this and tool to use?
I realise you can chase the threads but don't want to damage the thread due to my lack of experience in this area.
Thanks for any advice and guidance on this issue as the taps won't thread with the current state of the tanks. threads.

    Best wishes.

I would just chase out them useing the correct sise tap (probably 1/8 npt).If the theads were good to start with the tap will simply remove the soft paint with out cutting any metal.

      Thanks Pete.
I'll take them into a tool shop and get the correct taps supplied and give it a go. As mentioned, I've never done it before so just nervous about damaging the threads.

      Good on you.

        G'day Pete.
1/8 NPT for the fuel taps and 1/4 NPT for the oil line penetrations.
Just did the job and it only seemed to remove the gunk galling the thread, so lets hope for a fuel - oil tight fit once I fill her up.
        Thanks again mate.
