        beware

While I truely believe Pauls Chrome is the best out there, a word of warning. I sent a pristine motolamp bucket for chrome and they ground off the rivits for the mounting bracket and gave it back to me in 2 peices with screws to reassemble it with, the screws have smaller head diameters than the original rivits and instead of drilling out rivits they used a grinder and scuffed up the bracket inside the bucket. Had they told me they were going to molest my vintage original bucket i would have opted for paint. So still looking for another motolamp bucket, lessen learned. The chrome and engraving was top notch though!

While passing over this subject. Does anybody here know of someone that can reinstall the rivets in guide headlights and signal lights? Bob L

also on this subject, who does re-silvering? I believe that is the name of the process to replenish the reflector.

              head light resilvering

One of my buddies here just had one redone for a 48 pan and I am getting ready to give him ( Stephen Polosky) two more for me at Metro Plating and Polishing 4110 Howard Av. Kensington MD. 20895 301-493-4009 or 800-938-5811. He is experienced with these and work looks first rate. Price was $75. Other AMCA guys in the area use him as well.

Colony make rivet replacement kits for both headlamps and spotlamps. They are bolts with a rivet head on them. Just bolt them together and nobody is the wiser.

Was this a brass headlamp.. or a later steel one?

I have always found the brass headlamps were chromed and steel were painted.

I found a O.D. Cycle-Ray in a parking field the day after a local auction. Some tractor fellow must have decided it wasn't important.

There was some rust pitting in the worst place: the point of the bucket where the stamp is, and nearly obliterated it.
I had no problem smearing some spot filler into the pits and stamp, and then removing it from just the stamp with a toothpick, before it hardened. After repeating the procedure a few times, the lettering became quite distinct, and took paint well enough for my rat.

I'm certain that any one of you could do better, but I hate to paint with anything but a brush.
