  • Frame/fork neck cups

I swapped the 45 springer I was going to put on my knuckle for a BT springer and I was wondering about neck bearings. My frame came equipped with Timken bearing races in the neck cups and I have removed them. My question is can I get call bearing cup races and install them or are the races an integral part of the neck cup, and would I have to buy new neck cups? I have the upper head cone assembly and lower race centering piece so I would rather go with the ball bearings.

    Thanks for your help.

Big Twin ball bearing head cups have the race machined into them as an integral feature, it is not a pressed in race, therefore you need new cups. Don't forget the inner race as well. I have seen forks assembled without them by guys thinking the centering cone is a race, it is not.

Thanks Robbie.....I was kind of hoping they were pressed in....but c'est la vie, I'll have to buy the neck cups. I knew about the inner races already...thanks again.
