  • Knucklehead fender question

Early knuckle and BT sidevalve fenders used 5/8" mounting straps and it is generally acknowledged that mid 1946 and up used 7/8" straps. My question - what years did they use 3/4". I have an NOS BT olive drab military fender that is 5/8' so it is newer than that.

    Jerry,
Is this OD fender a military style or civilian style?

My NOS fender is the military style but that fender has the 5/8" straps not 3/4".

Seems I am not the only person with a rear 3/4" rear fender strap - on eBay - Item number: 330327450064. Jerry

Nobody has a bike with a 3/4" strap? I have 2 mid-year fenders with this strap and the guy on ebay was selling just the strap - surely someone other than us have them or have seen them.

When I got the rear fender for my 46EL it was missing the 2 short straps from the rear fender mount to the rear flap. I found a NOS 3/4" pair at a swap meet and used them as i knew the bags would hide them and it was only a barn bike. At that time there was no parts tag attached and I never did figure out what they were intended for? They did make them!

The V-Twin repop wide brace rear fenders have 3/4" braces. When I questioned why, Don at Corbin-Gentry where they assembled the fenders was surprised, because he had personally taken the measurement from an original fender from Ted's collection of parts. Apparently, Harley took whatever their vendor could supply.

I was under the impression that Paughco made those fenders. I didn't know that Gentry had the equipment to do that.
