  • What Does "CRS" Mean on c1920s "JD"?

The "B" suffix thread is so popular I thought I'd lay this one on you guys.

Just yesterday a friend with a c1920s "JD" (actual model not yet known) emailed me about his bike's correct year. I don't have the serial number yet, but he also said this:

On the very top of the crankcase above the serial number boss right below the front cylinder is stamped: "CRS."

He says that some Harley expert told him that CRS means "California Racing Special." Is that a designation that any of you guys have heard about before? Apparently it's been making the rounds.
