Any idea what year that first pic was taken?

This single story big shed was built in late 1906, so this is likely spring or summer of 1907 before it got the 2nd story addition.

This is a great photo. It looks like a frontier street out of the Old West. Mud with planks thrown down. Empty barrels next to the building. What was inside them? Cylinders maybe? And what is that post on the right side of the photo for? Notice the ramp for getting bikes in and out of the building.

Too bad they didn't have a bike in the photo, altho there is one of nearly the exact same shot with Walter on a 1907 model taken maybe the same day as this one. You guys know that picture. SGF posted a nice copy of it a while back. Also in ATC p.109.

Well, by some accounts written by Lacy Crolius, Walter really did have a halo and he could walk on water too.

Actually, the "halo" you see is a tampered photo (ATC p.109), that is, they put that white ring around Walter and the bike when they lifted that part of the image out of the larger photo. Then they sent the bike & Walter portion to the Milwaukee Journal where it was published that summer after Walter won the big Auto Derby contest. That allows us to date the bike to the first half of 1907. Nice!
