  • Guide Lighting Data Reference

Does anyone have a lead as to where I can find reference material / data for Guide lighting? Purchase, download, etc.

Guide was a really large enterprise. They made lighting equipment for virtually every american OEM into about the early 70's. Is there something in particular you were pondering?

Thank you for your reply Brian. You are right. I should have been more specific by saying Guide numbering for Harleys. What I'm interested in is finding correct Guide spots for my 48 pan. I've noticed various Guide numbers for spots & markers listed on eBay and wondered is there guide/book which explains their numbering system. As an example, I've noticed a listing on eBay (item # 250359729632) and wondered if these are the correct spots for a 48 (they look correct according to Palmer's restoration book). This would be large investment only to find out they are not the right spots, thus my quandary!

I thought 48 was the short mount and didn't have the focus screw. Bob

I have a short mount. Didn't realize the screw on the back of the shell (on the ebay listing) was a focus adjustment (if that's what you mean?).

Yes. I don't no what year they stopped the screw but as far as I know it wasn't used in 48. The mounts on the e-bay listing are the long ones not short. Bob

According to the parts books the prefocused bulb socket (68679-49) is listed as late 49 and later and the 68679-38 bulb socket as 38- early 49. Spot buckets should have the guibe logo in between the riveted on brackets and the lines of script "GUIDE" & "S-H2" stamped in the one bracket, one above the other. They should also have toggles on the rear, at some point in the late 50's the toggles seem to have been eliminated.

Ahh, then 68679-38 bulb socket would have a focus screw (68684-38) in the back of the bucket! Would you have any leads of any data reference (if any and where I could obtain/order + I like to collect this type of data) for Guide numbers? Thanks a million for your help, Brian!

38-48 used tall mount with focus screw. 49 was one year only, tall mount with NO focus screw. 50 and up used short mount. There may have been some overlaps while the style changed but this will get you in the ballpark.

Since were all on this topic already, how about the lenses? I don't recall the clear lenses being marked. But what about the red or fog lenses? Also am I correct that only the fog lenses were fluted?
