  • Brazed vs. Welded Handlebars

I have a set of original "Hollywood" handlebars on my 1940 EL. The handlebars are welded, and not brazed. I have two questions, if anyone can assist ... 1) At what point (in what year) were the handlebars welded instead of brazed (sometime after 1940, I presume), and 2) Any recommendations on how and whether it makes sense to attempt to remove the welding and braze the existing bars ... or should I just look to sell the welded bars and look for brazed bars? My concern is that I haven't seen any brazed hollywood bars around, and may have difficulty (and ultra-high cost) in obtaining them. Thanks.

    Two things to consider here.
    Many Hollywood bars were aftermarket.
Harley didn't weld bars till late 1944.

Thanks, Chris. That helps. Anything particular to look for to differentiate an OEM from early aftermarket handlebar?
