1938 Four

Just got lucky enough to purchase a tasty but over-chromed 1938 Indian Four. I know it's not correct, but the bike has chrome on just about everything. The wheels are the only items I don't care for - they are chrome (what else?) Japanese DID rims. I know this because it is stamped into the rims.

Any way to buff these rims to lose the lettering or do I need to pick up a replacement set?

Anything else I need to know about '38s?
