  • Valve guide press fit

I have some nos valve guides for my 36 four. The scout uses the same size hole. Appearently the valve guide holes in my cylinders are over size by a amall amount, as the guides are not a tight fit. I finally found a meterial I can make my own guides from. Any one know how many ths. oversize the guides should be? Do you apply any lube when installing the guides? How about heating the cylinder in a oven? Any help appreciated. I may have inquired about this info a long time ago, can't remember. Stan

If your guide holes are round and don't show much taper, .001 to .0015 is sufficient interference. If the holes are tapered and out of round you will need to true them up. Warm the cylinders to a couple hundred degrees for easier installation, and use press fit lube or light oil.
