if i take an put a cork in the bottom of my float bowl an pour gas in it it will quit leaking out the bottom of the inlet when its about 1/3 up the float, is there a number that i should be looking for here, its about 5/8 to 3/4 down from the top of the bowl
is this as good as holding it upside down an measuring for the 1/4 inch
    thank you ,dave

Difference in fuels and floats makes your method of inspection quite complicated. You just need a fuel-proof float that matches the buoyancy of the original, then set it to the spec in your manual, and then go on to other matters.

The spec for M-74B Linkerts is 1/4" from the lip of the bowl to the top of the float when inverted.
