57 flh timer direction

i have a 57 flh and i dont know how the timer grip is suppose to react, push or pull when turning, can anyone help, thanks once again

Turning the grip towards you as you sit on the bike should pull the cable and advance the timing [ turns the timer counter clockwise]. Turning the grip away from you does the opposite. This was the normal set up. However they made spirals which do just the opposite for riders who prefer left hand throttle.
