  • Setting up JD lower end

I'm doing my first JD, a 26. The connecting rods use 4 sets of rollers. Is this still the way to go, or is there a set of three with a longer roller for the middle rod? If so, would I use the same retainers? The parts catalog list both the long and short, but the long roller lengths listed don't seem to be the correct length as the space between the retainers. I can do the set of 4, but am wondering if I'm overlooking an improvement that can be done at this time.

Also, are the lifter rollers renewable/available? Several of mine seem pretty loose, they can rock side to side about .02-.03" There is a slot that seems to be used to unscrew the roller retainer, but I haven't tried too hard to loosen it yet. Thx in advance- Dan

The long rollers are for the rear centre male rod. The short rollers are half that length so the cages should close up end to end over the longer .700" long rollers as I recall from buiding up several of these a few years ago.
